Paradiso FTW!

We'll get to the title later, we always do. My vacation started on Friday. Had to give my kids away for a week. It's sad really. My heart aches every time I think of them. I wish they could be here but to fly them all down would be like an extra $1800. Who has that anymore? Not me!! So anyway I am now in San Antonio Texas. It really took a long time to get here. Even on a plane. We'll start from the beginning.

Saturday Nite Lincoln Nebraska -- Bob Devaney sports center -- Our boys won state basketball for the second year in a ROW! Can you believe it? They were not even 'favored' to win, but they sure did!! The other team is a Catholic school which can recruit so everyone was so afraid of this 6'5" 'powerhouse' they had on the team. I wonder if anyone else out there knows just because you're tall does not mean you can sink three's! Everyone thinks tall people can play basketball because they are tall. No, that's not how it works people. NOT how it works. It's a skill sport. Like all others. Think it over.

So that got over at 1230a and then we had to head to Omaha to the hotel before the flight on Sunday morning (at 620a), So basically we didn't get to bed until 215am and had to be up at 4am to leave the hotel at 5 to get to the airport in time for our flight. Good thing we did too because the lines were INSANE!!

So of course I was nervous getting on a plane again for the first time since '06, but once we got in the air it wasn't so bad. But I was starving. Completely starving at this point because all I had eaten was queso from Qdoba (and not much of it) and some popcorn. They gave us a Coke, but no pretzels! We got freaking pretzels last time. What the hell? So when we finally landed in Denver (that is a long 1 hr 5 minutes) I got a sandwich at the airport ($8) and it was good, but not good enough. It made me feel blah. I needed something hot.

So We get on another flight and we land in San Antonio. It's beautiful here. The weather, the buildings.. All of it. Beautiful! The people are super SUPER friendly. You're thinking 'well they are here too..' No, they go above and beyond friendly here. Like most people where I've been before (ND, SD, NE, CA) just 'do their job' and there's always someone griping somewhere. Not here. Everyone is cheery and most of them are funny too. I don't know what it is. Must be the year round sunshine! I could deal with that.

So our hotel is all ritzy, it's the Westin. Bryan said it's only $159 a nite. I'm really shocked by that. It's on the Riverwalk and it's just gorgeous. I mean the gift shop sells 'real' pearls and diamonds. This is not Motel 8.

So the Riverwalk is a long walk. I mean I have never walked so much in 29 years! I was so afraid I was going to gain like 30lbs here because Bryan is ready to 'eat out' 2x a nite just to try stuff.. and you don't because all you do is walk. It's a 10 minute walk anywhere (this is minimum).. and an hour OR MORE wait to get seated. THEN there's the boat tour. Let me tell you I think people wait up to 6 hours for that tour or more. IN LINE. You don't go back to your room and wait.. You wait in a line for 3-6 hours. When they pass I try get a little info. What I gather is that 10 people fall into the river a day. I wish I had the patience to wait 6 hours, but I don't.

So we ate at Casa Rio last nite. Let me tell you. BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH.. We have 2 better Mexican restaurants in Grand Forks. Everyone told me 'be ready for REAL Mexican food.' Well, if someone blindfolded me and told me that Paradiso just got a new owner. I'd believe it. Because it was no different than what you get on South Washington. Notta. In fact both Bryan and I prefer Paradiso over whatever that was. So. Paradiso (for the win) - the title!! :D You get it now!!

So I'm exhausted. I'm not meant to travel I don't think, but it's been fun so far. I'll blog more later. I'm tired. It's only 8. So forgive me for the lack of words.
